Service resumes for flood damaged church

April 23, 2006

Albany -- Another South Georgia church, had its first service today in a renovated sanctuary.

Sunday's service at First Baptist Church of Acree opened with a sanctuary dedication. That's because close to a foot of rain water from Hurricane Dennis invaded the church last July.

Members did what they could to save the church from the rushing waters, but the carpet, pews, the sound system had to be replaced.

Some members say these last few months were a test of faith and now they are happy to be back.

"In the long run the Lord used the whole situation. It was kinda trying at time, but everybody is really excited about being back in the sanctuary, almost like a rebirth," said church member Jim Hall.

The congregation has met in the worship hall for the past nine months. Members worked together all this time to get the sanctuary made over.
