THOMAS CO., GA (WALB) - A semi-truck rolled over on US Highway 19 round 6:30 this morning, as it was traveling on South Highway 19 in Ochlocknee.
Grey Shiver with the Georgia State Patrol says the driver claims he fell asleep at the wheel, before driving off the road onto the grassy median here.
Shiver says by the looks of the tire marks, the driver over-corrected once he drove into the median, snatched the steering wheel, sending the truck back onto the road, and onto the shoulder where it rolled.
GSP was alerted of the incident and arrived on the scene just before seven. They then blocked off road, while a towing company worked to get the truck upright.
The towing company struggled to get the fully-loaded refrigerator truck up, because it was so heavy. The process took about three hours.
Shiver says it's an ongoing investigation as to why the driver fell asleep, even though his route just started.
This road was backed up for miles with cars constantly crossing the median to find an alternate route, but now the road has been cleared, and there shouldn't be any more delays this way.
