Burt Reynolds shows support to the South GA film industry

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Actor Burt Reynolds spoke at the RKDS Film Festival out of Valdosta, where he was honored for his contribution to the Georgia Film industry.

"You just have to do everything you can," said Reynolds.

Those are the words spoken by the two-time Golden Globe winner Burt Reynolds, who is known for his roles in Boogie Nights, Evening Shade, and Smokie and the Bandit.

Reynolds spoke out to the actors, actresses and filmmakers of South Georgia Thursday about being dedicated to the craft.

"Do everything you can to be out there among the people," said Reynolds

It was all in honor of the first day of the RKDS Film Festival in Valdosta.

An event founded to push the southern film community forward.

"This is a business that if you don't like it, it will get rid of you real fast, but if you love it, people start to see how much you love it, and how much you give to it," explained Reynolds.

Reynolds encouraged the young generation to stick with industry, no matter what hardships they may face.

"I love the business, first of all, if these young people are truly in love with what they're doing that's the most important thing," said Reynolds.

He also announced that he has some new projects on the way.

"I'm going to do three movies in a row now, that's scheduled," stated Reynolds.

Festival Director Roy Kirkland said having Reynolds attend the festival shows just how big the South Georgia industry could be if artists stuck around.

"To be able to have this magnificent star and a wonderful person, down to earth, to come to our film festival here in Valdosta is almost like winning the lottery. We love having Burt Reynolds here," exclaimed Kirkland.
