ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A suspect in a violent armed robbery is in custody after Albany police made an arrest at the Homerun Foods on Dawson Road Wednesday night.
According to the Albany Police Department, Dontavious Wingfield, 26, is a suspect in a home invasion at the Royal Inn that happened in May.
Police said a woman reported that two men knocked on her door at the motel in the 800 block of West Highland Avenue on May 29.
The woman told officers that when she answered the door, the men said something she couldn't hear, so she opened the door a bit.
She then told police that one of the suspects forced his way into the room and told her, "If you move, I'll kill you."
The victim then told officers the man pulled a gun out and struck her on the head twice, causing her to fall down. After she fell she told police the man kicked her multiple times on her sides.
Then she said the other man entered the room but he didn't say anything. She said the first man pointed the gun at her and demanded money. She said she complied and allowed him to take her purse with cash, her ID, credit and debit cards along with her room key.
The woman then said the men left the motel on foot, heading east on West Highland Avenue.
APD said Wingfield was charged for his suspected involvement in the armed robbery.
He was taken to the Dougherty County Jail.
