Residents of Ocilla personal care facility moved to temporary shelter after fire

OCILLA, GA (WALB) - Crews responded to a fire at a personal care facility in Ocilla Tuesday night.

Eleven residents staying at the Heritage Care center are now safe at a temporary shelter.

They evacuated around 7:30 Tuesday night after a golf cart caught on fire outside one of the buildings.

Officials said the fire destroyed the men's building and caused extensive smoke damage to the women's.

Thankfully, all the employees and residents were able to get out safely.

WALB was told the community quickly came together to help get medication and supplies together, but they still have a long way to go.
