THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - Norris Randall Butler was found dead Wednesday in a pipe that connects two ponds on either side of his driveway on M and M Lane in Thomasville.
Butler was reported a missing person Tuesday night, and Thomas County investigators went to his property Wednesday morning with cadaver dogs to try and find him.
Lt. Tim Watkins, Thomas County Sheriff's Office chief investigator, said it's protocol to bring dogs because Butler's property is so large.
The cadaver dogs, Watkins said, led officers to the front of the driveway near the ponds.
Watkins said when they looked into the pipe they could see that Butler's body was lodged about halfway in. Officers said he was trying to clean out the clogged pipe, but are unsure how he became wedged.
The Thomas County Coroner and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab will determine by Thursday if an autopsy is necessary.
The brother of Norris Randall Butler lives two hours away, and drove to Butler's home immediately when he heard what happened.
Butler's brother and neighbors said he was the hardest working man they knew, and when he put his mind to something he was going to get it done.
They also cautioned people to know where they are going, just in case something bad were to happen.
