UPDATE: Alabama shooting victim identified

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A man from South Alabama has died after a shooting in Albany early Wednesday morning.

Wednesday afternoon, he was identified as Che'valier Kenyatta Paul.

Police responded to a report of shots fired in the 900 block of Mercedes Street shortly after 5 a.m. This is just a few blocks away from ASU's campus.

When officers arrived, they found a man inside a white PGW Auto Glass van wounded and unconscious. The passenger side window was shattered.

Coroner Michael Fowler said the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the victim is from Dothan, Alabama and was in Albany making a delivery to a local auto glass dealer. Albany Police originally said Paul was 35, however, the coroner says the victim's age is 45.

Albany Police put on their Facebook page that after a preliminary investigation, detectives suspect the Alabama man completed his delivery at Albany Auto Glass and was shot after returning to the vehicle.

Coroner Michael Fowler called this a "senseless killing." Police have not released any information about suspects or a motive at this time.

PGW Glass released the following statement about Paul:

PGW Auto Glass was saddened and stunned to hear of the passing of one of our drivers, Mr. Chevalier Paul, early this morning. Our thoughts and condolences are with the friends and family of Mr. Paul during this tragic time.
