Flood advisory issued for Dougherty, Lee and Worth counties

(WALB) -

The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for the following areas until 4:45 p.m:

  • Northeastern Dougherty County
  • Southwestern Lee County
  • Central Worth County

Heavy rainfall from thunderstorms can cause minor flooding in the areas under the advisory.

The NWS said water has been reported over the road around 3rd Avenue in Albany and additional minor flooding is possible in the area.

According to the NWS, some of the areas that will experience some minor flooding include Sylvester, Albany, Poulan, East Albany, Marine Corps Logistics Base, Turner City, Walker, Sumner, Stocks, Radium Springs, Forrester, Lockett Crossing, Sylvester Airport, South Albany, Southwest Georgia Regional Airport, Palmyra, Red Rock, Acree, Shingler and Gordy.

If you see water over a roadway you should not attempt to drive through it.

    Community members in Albany were able to enjoy a night of music and entertainment all for the "Flint River Habitat for Humanities" annual 'Hammer Jam' event.  Organizers said nearly 700 people attend every year to help people in the community.
