COLQUITT CO., GA (WALB) - Over a half a million dollar pay raise for county employees in Colquitt County could happen if the proposed budget plan passes during Thursday's board meeting.
The majority of the pay raise would benefit the sheriff's office, which makes up 40 percent of the overall county workforce.
"Law enforcement got a pretty significant increase across the board in this year's budget. They haven't adopted it yet, but I expect the board to approve it tomorrow night," said County Administrator Chas Cannon.
The goal of the pay raise is to continue attracting highly qualified law enforcement to keep the county safe.
Cannon said if this bill doesn't go through, it could lessen the chances of getting qualified law enforcement, so Thursday's meeting is vital for the future of the county.
