"It's just great to see them responding to me," said Lady Hornet head coach Jeray Randall. "This is an opportunity that I have been really looking forward to."
Just a few strong words coach used to describe his feelings about taking the basketball head coaching position for the Pelham Lady Hornets.
In this scrimmage Tuesday, the Lady Hornets got the opportunity to try their pre-season efforts against the Americus-Sumter Panthers.
"They play hard," said Randall. "This was some great competition for them today to see where they are at mentally. We got a little, little things that we can work at, to help us in the future."
With this being coaches first head coaching job and taking such a high powered team such as the Hornets, coach decided that to be the best, you sometimes need the best.
"I just feel honored to be here to coach," said second all-time leading scorer D'Ambria Thomas. "I think that it's gunna take hard work, passion, leaders. I just feel like if everybody buy in, we'll be okay."
With Pelham's 2nd all-time leading scorer on the coaching staff, he hopes she can help light the way.
"You know, that gives them an opportunity to see the challenges that they are going through as girls playing basketball," said Randall. "And that it could be done."
But coach is no stranger to teaching talent. You can even ask Pelham's third all-time leading scorer.
"This is a big opportunity for him to show the knowledge that he has and give it to other players as they continue to go on on to the court."
Hoping that when that final buzzer sounds, they will be crowned the 2019 state champions.
