Burglars smash storefront in Albany, try to steal ATM

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Burglars used a stolen truck to ram the front of a West Albany gas station, trying to steal an ATM inside the convenience store.

Albany police released surveillance photos of the burglary that happened early Monday morning.  

Police said subjects used a stolen 1998 GMC Sierra to crash in the entrance of the College Corner store in the 2200 block of Gillionville Road. 

According to APD, they damaged the machine but could not steal it from the store. Police reports indicate the burglars caused about $6,000 in damage.

Later that morning, police found the stolen truck on fire in the 100 block of W Oakridge Drive. The fire department was able to put out the fire.

    Community members from the Shadowlawn area met with city leaders to talk about a new sanitary sewer expansion plan.  The expansion plan would extend North on West Gordon Avenue, to South on Shadow-Lawn Drive, then east on West-town Road to the railroad tracks off of West Waddell Avenue.  City leaders said this project is long overdue for the homeowners in this area.
