ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Albany State University can officially say it has the best athletics program in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
The Golden Rams returned from this week's league meetings with both SIAC commissioner's cups.
It's an award decided on by a point system based on the success of each sport in conference play.
While this is the 2nd consecutive cup for the men, its the first time ASU has ever won it on the men's and women's sides in the same year.
A successful campaign ended with the ultimate prize.
"(I'm) surprised, but just truly thankful. To lead not only in athletics, to lead a unit in a transition such as this (a consolidation) it's not easy work," said Director of Athletics Sherie Gordon.
"So I'm just grateful for our staff, both administrative, coaches and our student-athletes really seizing the opportunity to lead through change."
The Golden Rams won conference in men's golf, baseball and women's cross country and softball this past academic year.
