Albany police investigate shooting near Newton Road

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Albany police are investigating after a man was shot in the back and buttocks and ran to a convenience store for help on Thursday.

According to police, Elijha Brown told officers he was walking in the 600 block of Dorsett Avenue, toward Newton Road, when an unknown man shot him twice around 2:16 p.m.

Brown said he ran to the Brothers Corner Convenience Store for help and asked the clerk to call 911.

"I'm just a passenger passing through. This is why I'm glad I don't live in Albany," said a concerned woman who did not want to be identified.

Brown was taken to the hospital for treatment. His condition has not been released.

Police said there are currently no witnesses or suspects at this time.

Anyone with any information is urged to call CrimeSTOPPERS at (229) 436-TIPS.
