BLAKELY, GA (WALB) - A 120 year old church in Early County is prepping to make a huge mark in its community after a $150,000 renovation project.
Last week, Saint Mathis Missionary Baptist Church held its church dedication after the 9 month project.
The church expanded by 30 feet to bring in more people and hold more community events.
Members said this project will help provide space and services for seniors, and activities for the youth.
"We're just happy to be able to try and help somebody. I know doing this, hopefully it will go for a long time cause we didn't know the church was in the shape that it was. And we're hoping maybe more people will come. We only have a few members, a few faithful ones. We have a lot of members who joined but only a few that attend. So we're just hoping that maybe the older ones will come back with us," said James Lee, Church Dean at Saint Mathis Missionary Baptist Church.
The church installed a handicap ramp to help with members of the older adult programs.
They're also planning mentoring and summer camp programs for kids.
