ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Dougherty County's Coroner is partnering with local organizations to save children's lives on the water this summer.
Michael Fowler hosted the swim for life summer splash event Saturday, to register kids for free swimming lessons.
Families enjoyed lots of fun with water slides and snacks.
But Fowler said it's about something more serious, and that he wants to keep all area kids safe when they are near the water, now that summer has arrived.
"I think it's very important for them to learn how to swim because many kids go to beaches and hand around ponds, they need to know exactly what to do if something happens if they were to drown or whatever, in case someone else drowns," said Fowler.
The lessons are offered by the Boys and Girls Club, the Albany Recreation department, and the YMCA.
You can sign your child up at any of those locations.
