DAWSON, GA (WALB) - One of two historical landmarks in Terrell County is undergoing renovations.
The historic log cabin was built in 1913.
Now the home has been undergoing renovations since February.
It now has heating and air, plumbing, new roof and a new chimney.
The chimney was constructed using the original stones on the cabin.
President of the Terrell County Historic Preservation Society, Travis Sawyer wants to see this space become an investment in the Terrell County community.
"But we want it to be more than just on the registry. We want it to be usable. We want to have different community events," said Sawyer.
Some of the new refurbishments were donated, others members of the Society fundraised for.
It cost more than $30,000 to move the cabin, the HVAC system cost more than $8,000, the roofing was donating saving the society over $6,000, about $2,000 on plumbing, the chimney and fireplace inside cost about $12,000 and more renovations to come.
Sawyer hopes to finish the stairwell and interior renovations as well as landscaping next.
Now he hopes this event space is put to use by the fall.
His hope is to have the historic log cabin totally completed by the end of 2018.
