The 2018 high school athletics season is in the books, and tonight area athletes were honored
The 5th annual South Georgia Athletics banquet was held Thursday night.
It was presented by ITG Next, formerly known as 'In the Game Sports.'
275 student-athletes, family members and coaches joined at the Patterson in Downtown Valdosta.
Over 70 awards were presented based on academic, athletic and community service work.
Valdosta State head football coach Kerwin Bell shared some words of wisdom to the crowd.
"There's so many things I know these young people want to accomplish in their life," said Bell. "It don't matter how smart you are or how good looking you are its the word perseverance. If you're persistent in reaching your goals, you'll be able to get there."
Bell would know. He played 13 years of professional football and started four seasons as the Florida Gators quarterback in the 80s.
