Arlington woman convicted of killing girlfriend

ARLINGTON, GA (WALB) - A fight between two women ended with one being stabbed to death, and the woman suspected of the stabbing being convicted this week in Calhoun County Superior Court.

Tammy Australia Martin was convicted of Malice Murder, and sentenced to life in prison.  The jury concluded that Martin killed her girlfriend, Lashanda Reid Williams, on September 5th, 2017.

Williams had recently ended the relationship, which led Martin in a fit of rage to stab her multiple times, according to District Attorney Joe Mulholland.

"Unfortunately domestic violence is far too prevalent in our society,' said the D. A.  "I commend Brandon Shiver and the GBI (Georgia Bureau of Investigation) in making my job easy by putting together an excellent case. I hope that the Williams family can have some closure by knowing that the person that took their loved one will spend the rest of her life behind bars."

It happened at an apartment in the 18000 block of Morgan Road, in Arlington.

The GBI said that Reid was found dead outside her residence, with multiple sharp force trauma wounds.
