ALBANY, GA (WALB) - One Albany leader is working to improve the downtown Albany area by encouraging local businesses and restaurants to make the move to the area.

Ward 3 City Commissioner BJ Fletcher said now is the time to get it right for downtown development.

With the momentum growing from the brewery and other businesses downtown, Fletcher is aiming to make downtown Albany more local oriented.

"People don't come to a community to visit your chains and I'm not bashing chains, they do their part. But people come downtown for something different," said Fletcher.

Fletcher has mentioned there are four new businesses looking to move to the area.
