WATCH: Police commander receives emotional final call after 32 years of service

DOUGLAS, GA (WALB) - It was an emotional day as the patrol unit commander at the Douglas Police Department retired and received his final call from dispatch on Tuesday.

As he sat in a police patrol car, Commander Ramon Harper called dispatch on his radio for the last time.

You hear dispatch come over the radio and issue his final call.

"A little message from all your coworkers, brothers and sisters in blue and all of us at 911, we wish you the best and congratulations on your retirement. We sincerely thank you for your 32 years of dedicated service to our community. Ramon, it's been a pleasure," said the 911 dispatcher.

As Commander Harper listens, you can see the tears in his eyes and emotion in his face as he responds "10-4, y'all stay safe."

The Douglas Police Department shared the video on its Facebook page, wishing him the best of luck after serving the Douglas community for 32 years.

Harper is retiring as the commander of the patrol division.
