ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The weather didn't stop one Albany church from having a nice southern barbeque.
St. James Missionary Baptist Church held their third annual 'Unity in the Community BBQ event' Saturday.
They gave away hundreds of food and clothing items.
The church said there's a lot criminal activity in the Jackson street area.
They're hoping this event will bring hope and help for those struggling.
"I was telling the congregation before we left, y'all pray that God holds off the rain so we have time to feed and cloth his people. And pretty much God held off the rain but it didn't run anybody away. We wanted to stay out here because we knew that we are on a mission and we could not leave until that mission was fulfilled," said Pastor Lawrence Knighton.
The church said they will have another community feeding after Labor Day.
