ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Active duty military members can now tour The Albany Civil Rights Institute for free this summer.
Officials hope this will spur tourism in Albany.
The Civil Rights Institute is now part of the Blue Star Museums across the nation.
Participating museums will offer free admission to all active duty military and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
There are 2,000 participating museums and the hope is that tourists will travel from city to city seeing what each museum and town has to offer.
Executive Director Frank Wilson hopes to not only increase traffic for the museum but help contribute to the economic development.
"Because when those tourists come they sleep in beds, they eat in restaurants, they buy gas and groceries. We certainly want to be a part of not only the tourist industry but the economic development," said Wilson.
