ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Lee County Middle School West students put their hands to work renovating exhibits at the reptile house at Chehaw Park.
STEM students from the school worked on the project initiative called the Chehaw Change-Up.
During the year, students researched animals and later designed an exhibit based on the individual needs.
After making a presentation to a panel, winners were chosen and allowed to join Chehaw zookeepers to redesign the proposed exhibits.
Park staff said having the help of the students is very beneficial.
"You have 36 students out here working for a couple of hours, saves me three weeks worth of work from staff because my guys have all these other things to do," said Chehaw Director of Animal Care Ben Roberts.
This year, almost a dozen exhibits were designed and renovated according to the recommendations of students.
