ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Dougherty County school leaders said they're looking for children to attend their free pre-K enrichment program, and the time to apply is now.
Dougherty County leaders said if your child is 4-years-old and going to kindergarten in the fall, and never attended a pre-K program, there are slots left just for you.
The Dougherty County Pre-K Program said it has 48 slots for the Summer Transition Program.
The program will run from June 4 to July 13.
Each day, kids will be taught on a kindergarten curriculum level which will prepare them before they get there.
There will be free transportation opportunities, free breakfast, lunch and snacks.
Dougherty County pre-K leaders said each year, teachers see a high success rate from students who attend these programs.
"What an opportunity. It's free, for our parents to allow their children to come to this particular program, so when they get to kindergarten, they will be ready and eager to learn and make strides in their next learning environment," said Tamra Jenkins, the pre-K resource coordinator with the Dougherty County Pre-K Program.
School leaders said children must attend the entire six-week program and parents must attend one parent session per week.
The program will be accepting applications until May 29.
Applications can be filled out at Sylvandale Elementary.
