ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Young boys in Albany spent Sunday learning about the importance of having a father figure in their life.

Brainiacs 21st Century Learning hosted its first-ever Father and Son Empowerment Day.

Kids participated in doughnuts with dads and played in a basketball tournament.

Organizers wanted to promote the bond between a father and son that helps develop young boys into men.

They hoped fathers would learn more about the roles they play in their children's lives as well.

"Usually mothers and sons are always glorified but what about fathers and sons? And so today the speakers talked about the importance of fathers in a son's life and the bonding was done on the court," said Yineka Jefferson, an organizer at Brainiacs 21st Century Learning.

The organization will also begin a summer camp this summer that runs June 4 through July 14.
