ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Saturday hundreds of Dougherty County students walked the stage to receive their diplomas.
The Albany Civic Center hosted three graduation ceremonies, one each for Monroe, Westover, and Dougherty High schools.
District leaders said a number of special awards were given out for each school, including honor awards.
One Westover grandparent who had cancer, said she didn't think she would live to see her grandson graduate.
"I came down with stomach cancer and it was a hard go for me, but God made it so good for me that I'm here to see him graduate," said LaVerne Jackson, Westover graduate grandmother.
This year was the first year the county had three graduations instead of four, after the closing of Albany High School.
