ADEL, GA (WALB) -

A multi-agency task force fanned out across Cook County and arrested over 20 people who are on probation and are known gang members or affiliated with gangs on Thursday. Outstanding warrants were served on several other people.

Some people were charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a stolen firearm (AR-15), trafficking cocaine and felony possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Violation of criminal street gang charges will also be brought against some people.

This joint operation in Cook County shows that we are serious about the safety of our citizens and the welfare of our community. Approximately 100 law enforcement personnel started yesterday very early, with the sole purpose of improving the lives of the people of Cook County and South Georgia. We will not let criminal street gangs freely roam our streets. I must thank Cook County Sheriff Doug Hanks and Adel Police Chief Chad Castleberry. I am also sincerely grateful to the individuals of the FBI Gang Task Force, Lowndes County Sheriff Ashley Paulk, Department of Corrections, Department of Community Supervision (state probation), Department of Natural Resources, Valdosta Police Department, Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Georgia State Patrol for their time, assistance and expertise. - District Attorney Dick Perryman
