ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Low voter turnout has Albany election officials rethinking offering a second early voting location in the future.

All week, the Riverfront Resource Center on Pine Avenue is open as a second location for early voters.

At lunchtime Wednesday, only 12 people had come to vote.

Dougherty County's election supervisor, Ginger Nickerson, said she is monitoring the turnout there closely.

Nickerson said it is not a good use of taxpayer money to pay employee salaries when few citizens are taking advantage of the second location.

One voter we spoke with had just finished jury duty and walked a block up the street to complete her civic duty, and vote.

"They need to take the time, find the time to get out and vote. It is really important," said early voter Cheryl Merritt.

There are only two more days to vote early.

In Dougherty County, early voting is available at the RiverFront Resource Center and on the second floor of the Government Center from 8:30 until 5.

Both locations are on Pine Avenue.

Election Day is May 22.
