ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Dougherty County is working to improve the region's overall health status, starting with its own.
County employees were invited to try out everything from a mini CrossFit challenge to a taste of a fresh kale salad.
It was all part of Dougherty County's Annual Employee Wellness Fair, held outside the Dougherty County Government Center.
With 650 county employees, the county's human resource director said wellness is a high priority.
"Our statistics in health are kind of bad right now. We care about our employees, we care about their health and we want them to know that," said Dougherty County HR Director Dominique Hall.
Hall said research shows improved health also improves rates of productivity and job absenteeism.
Participation from community businesses and organizations was large, with dozens of booths from Albany Tech's Culinary School, Phoebe, CrossFit Dreadnought, Farmer Fredo and more.
