ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Mother's Day is Sunday, May 13.

If you haven't bought anything yet, there is still time to purchase a last minute gift, and flowers are always the go-to gift for Mother's day.

Albany flower shops flower orders are way down from previous years.

Mothers Day and Valentines Day are the two biggest holidays for flower shops.

They depend on these holiday sales to make their yearly budget for each year.

Albany Floral and Gift Shop and the Petal Pusher both expressed that their sales are drastically lower than what they used to be, while others are experiencing steady sales.

The reason they believe is the convenience of grocery stores and online shopping, but they believe their quality is why customers should buy locally.

Lynn Terry, Owner of Albany Floral and Gift Shop, believes you can tell the difference from store-bought flowers.

"Our flowers are coming straight from the wholesalers in boxes and are fresh, so they will last a lot longer. So that is one reason why they are probably a little more."

So even though, you might not like the price tag and may see a cheaper price at a grocery store.

Supporting local businesses results in further business for shops like Albany Floral and Gift Shop, that has been in business since 1927.

Most shops expect late orders, so the last day to order is Saturday afternoon for all Albany flower shops.

Whether it is some nice flowers, a fancy dinner, or a relaxing day at home, let's all make sure we do our part to remember our mothers this weekend.
