Back in 2016, the Baconton baseball team took the Region title and made it to the Elite Eight.
Sadly, they weren't able to go any further. Now, it seems like a case of Deja vu, but Baconton isn't going to let their past, dictate their future.
The Blazers took the Region 1-A by force this season, with a record of 17 - 1 and a 20 - 5 overall record.
Head coach Bubber Birdsong said the team went through a bit of a rough patch in the middle of the season and went 7 - 4 early on, but the team pulled together, and then only lose one more game the rest of the season.
Heading into the playoffs, the Blazers had a 9-game win streak after their last lose coming from Worth County, Blazers haven't looked back, and don't intend to.
Both of the teams' seniors remember the heart break from that 2016 lose in the Elite Eight, and said they aren't going to let that happen again.
"We definately came out to practice like we did at the start of the year." said senior center fielder Logan Cain. "We stopped taking it too easy, stopped over looking teams, got back to simple baseball."
"I think after the lose to Pelham it was really a turning point in the season." said senior third baseman Will Bush. "We all needed to start getting things together and started playing simple baseball again."
They knew they needed to get back to the fundamentals they have been taught all year, and clearly it's working.
Baconton will host Telfair County Friday at 2 P.M.
