Officials identify couple who died after Dougherty Co. shooting

DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) - Officials have identified the two people who died after a shooting in Dougherty County.

It happened in the 3500 block of Hamilton Drive before 11 a.m. Tuesday.

According to the Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler, Huey Neil, 77, and his wife, Jessie Neil, 71 died after being shot.

Investigators said the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute.

Investigators with the Dougherty County Police, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and SWAT agents responded to the scene.

A female was taken to a hospital in Macon for a gunshot wound.

"Any domestic-type incident that we respond to is potentially dangerous because of the emotions and stuff of that nature," said Dougherty County Police Captain Jason Hagar.

That's why police called the SWAT team. Police said they believed multiple people were inside the home, one with a deadly weapon.

The SWAT team arrived just before noon after police set up a perimeter around the house. When the SWAT team entered they say they found Huey and Jessie Neil dead. The coroner said they were husband and wife.

"It's heartbreaking just to hear something going on in your neighborhood like that," said Sarah McClendon, a neighbor. "I will be praying for the family. In fact, we all need prayer. That is the key to everything, prayer."
