VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Second Harvest of South Georgia is now preparing to feed 3,000 to 4,000 kids summer meals when school is out.
Organizers said they will need volunteers and donations to accomplish the ambitious feeding program.
Second Harvest said one in every three South Georgia children are food insecure.
This summer they are now preparing to set up five to 10 food stations across South Georgia, to prepare hot meals for children that depend on the national school meal plan, when school is out.
"We will be feeding all across our 30 county area. And so some places it will be breakfast. Some places it will be lunch. Some place it might be supper. Because logistically we have to be able to make that work with a very small staff," said Second Harvest of South Georgia's Eliza McCall.
Second Harvest is currently developing a plan for feeding locations.
They could use volunteers and donations. If you would like to help, call Second Harvest at 229-244-2678.
