LEE CO., GA (WALB) -

Lee County Sheriff Reggie Rachals said a grenade that a woman found Sunday does not pose a threat.

Rachals said the woman found the grenade and brought it to the Lee Co. fire station near Century Road on US 19.

Sheriff's officials didn't know if the grenade was live, so they took precaution and shut down US 19 surrounding the fire station for around an hour Sunday night.

A tech expert investigated and said the grenade had already been detonated.

As of just before 10 p.m., Rachals said they were waiting for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to investigate before the grenade is removed from the front lawn of the fire station.
