Smith was arrested in Houston County after a shoot-out with police inside a hotel.

That happened just before 5 a.m. at the Scottish Inn in Perry.

Agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Smith opened fire at officers hitting their ballistic shields at least twice.

The GBI said officers fired back, and Smith continued firing.

"At that point after about 8 or 10 minutes, the subject was able to be talked out of the room," said GBI Special Agent J.T. Ricketson. "He gave up, they took him into custody and got him downstairs, they checked him over, he was not injured in the incident. None of the deputies or police officers were injured either."

GBI agents said they're working to get arrest warrants for Smith for aggravated assaults on police officers.
