Albany Chamber awards small businesses and non-profits

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Small businesses are a vital role in Albany's success is the small businesses.

Those businesses were recognized for the impact they make on the community. 

The Albany Area Chamber of Commerce named Southern Pointe Staffing the 2018 business of the year. 

Last year, they provided employment opportunities to more than 540 people in Albany. 

Barbara Rivera Holmes said businesses like this have a huge impact on economic development in Albany.

"In your community, you are really able to capture more of that economic impact and we distribute within your economy. Supporting small business and thinking local is absolutely critical so we can expand the economy," said Rivera Holmes.

The Albany Area YMCA took home nonprofit of the year.
