VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - The Valdosta Police Department recently joined the trend of putting prescription drug drop boxes inside the station to give community members a safe way to dispose of pills they no longer use.
When officers went to dump the box, it was completely full.
People are encouraged to drop-off all prescription drugs without questions from police.
"You know if you have a possible family member in the house that has a weakness towards abusing or that sort of thing, just remove temptation. Get it out of the house and if it's not needed anymore, dispose of it," said Lt. Adam Bembry.
With the city recently declaring opioids as a nuisance, this option just serves as another way to fight the epidemic.
The drop box is only for prescription drugs and can be found in the lobby of the Valdosta Police Department.
All other drugs dropped off will be subject to questioning.
