DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) - More than 40,000 people this year alone will lose their battle with breast cancer.
That's according to the American Cancer Society.
And Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital wants to help lower those odds.
Starting May 1, Phoebe will give away 100 free mammograms in honor of women's health and Mother's Day.
"Mammograms are very important because they detect cancers very early. The earlier cancers are treated, the better the prognosis is for that patient," said Tina Giovingo, RN.
In order to take advantage of the service, there are a few requirements:
- have not had a mammogram in the last 12 months
- over the age of 40
- not experiencing any breast problems, (if you are experiencing breast problems, contact your doctor immediately)
- not pregnant
- live in one of the following counties: Baker, Calhoun, Colquitt, Crisp, Dougherty, Early, Lee, Miller, Mitchell, Randolph, Sumter, Terrell, Tift, Turner and Worth.
