ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

An organization is working to help burn victims recover.

For 35 years, Fire departments across the state have been putting on events to raise money for the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation.

Saturday, the Albany Fire Department kicked off their portion of the "Give Burns the Boot" campaign, outside Sam's Club in Albany.

The campaign aims to support burn victims and their families.

The executive director of the foundation himself is a burn victim.

"Our mission is to partner with the fire service and burn care community to provide safety and prevention education, assist medical facility in the care and treatment of burns, and hold the hand if you will of burn survivors and their journey of recovery, to get to whatever their new normal is," said Dennis J. Gardin, executive director of  the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation.

Over 100 fire departments around the state participate.

Organizers said they couldn't do it without the dedication of those fire departments, and the cheerful givers in the community.
