ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Members of law enforcement have been collecting donations outside Krispy Kreme to benefit Special Olympics

The fundraising started Friday morning at the Krispy Kreme on North Slappey and Pine Avenue.

Organizers said so far they have raised thousands of dollars.

The Dougherty County Sheriff's Office, Albany Police, and the Dougherty County Police Department came together to raise money for the event.

Special Olympic participants have also been outside for hours collecting donations.

"We compete in volleyball, bowling, basketball, and bocce too. It's really good and I'm glad they are out here helping us with the Special Olympics," said Shannon Ford, a participant in the Olympics.

About 27,000 athletes participate in Special Olympics.

If you haven't had the chance to donate and want to they will be out collecting donations until 10 p.m. Saturday.
