HAHIRA, GA (WALB) - Hahira officials hired a new main street director this week.
Emily Perry Davenport was chosen after a lengthy search, and will take over the position in June.
She is a Valdosta State graduate and Valdosta's former Assistant Director of Engineering.
Now, she will be in charge of special events, implementing new ideas, and boosting the economic impact of area businesses.
That announcement comes at the height of Hahira's 48-month downtown planning process.
The city invested over a million dollars into the downtown area.
Most of that went toward the creation of a Downtown Development Authority, land for a central square and an event center.
Once Davenport takes over, the city plans to apply for certification as a Main Street City.
