ALBANY, GA (WALB) - One Albany city commissioner is working to bring surrounding neighborhood watches together to work hand in hand in eliminating crime in her ward.
BJ Fletcher is holding a neighborhood watch gathering Saturday focused on the Sherwood neighborhood watch.
Fletcher has six neighborhood watches in her ward and says they are all welcome.
The event will be held in the commissioner's backyard. She wants neighbors to get to know each other better in order to have a successful neighborhood watch.
Representatives from the Albany Police Department, Albany Fire Department and security companies will be on hand to answer questions.
"Summertime is coming, you've got a whole new set of rules when these kids are out for school. So it's just absolutely to get fact out there, to get to know the neighbors and find out whats going on," said Fletcher.
Saturday afternoon's gathering will serve hamburgers and hotdogs.
The address is 2302 12th Avenue in Albany.
