ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Lifelink Organ Donor organization is holding a week-long celebration for National Donate Life month.

It's a national initiative to encourage everyone to register as organ donors and to celebrate those who have saved lives by donating.

This is the 10th year they've hosted the celebrations.

It all starts on Thursday with a kick-off party in from of the Government Center in downtown Albany.

Organizers said they plan to turn the fountain water bright blue!

They say events like these show the city and community's support while bringing more awareness to the importance of being an organ donor.

"Letting everyone know that being an organ donor is an amazing thing because you get to save lives," said education Specialist Carla Hawkins, "you get to be a hero. So, that's our super hero color this week and the rest of month. Everybody can participate."

The big event is the Bar-B-Q Cook-Off for Life.

That's on Saturday from 10: 00 a-m until 4:00 in the Sam's Club's parking lot.

You'll also see the Albany Fire Department out there to collect donations for their 'Give Burns the Boot' fundraiser.
