ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Downtown Albany was bustling over the weekend with multiple events.

According to the Albany's Convention and Visitor's Bureau Director Rashelle Beasley, more than 3,000 people turned out to hear the Christian rock band Casting Crowns perform Saturday night at the Civic Center.

Beasley said the Deerfield-Windsor Thespians had several sold-out performances of Disney's "The Little Mermaid" at the Municipal Auditorium.

And there were hundreds of athletes attending the SIAC conference track and field championships at Hugh Mills Stadium.

Beasley described the weekend as "fantastic," which only increased the buzz around downtown Albany.

"With everything else going on, it just made for a great weekend downtown. I think everybody is starting to get the idea of great things happening. It is really all starting to come together," said Beasley.

City Spokesperson Monique Broughton-Knight said police officers are assigned to special events and are placed in highly visible locations.

She said the next big downtown event will be on July 4.
