ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A number of streets in Albany are much more appealing to the eye, thanks to 'Stash the Trash' volunteers who helped clean the city over the past few days.

Commissioner Jon Howard joined 'Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful' to help clean-up sites on seven blocks in East Albany.

This weekend volunteers picked up all kinds of litter, even appliances.

More than 50 students and chaperones from Turner Job Corps, marine base officers, and city leaders helped with the effort.

Commissioner Howard said this is just one of many events he has planned in East Albany this year.

"I try to per year, try to have 3 or 4 clean ups in combination with other organizations to make sure, because littering will be an ongoing project we will be doing this for the next 50 some years because we got to do a concerted effort to educate the public," said Howard.

Commissioner Howard said this summer he will have other clean-ups to keep citizens engaged in 'Keeping Albany Beautiful.'
