THOMAS CO., GA (WALB) - Thomas County deputies are testing out their new drone this week.
Captain Steve Jones said they will use the drone now instead of a helicopter which will be less costly for taxpayers.
The drone will be used in missing persons cases or if they are looking for suspects in a specific area.
According to deputies, the drone has already been used in a recent armed robbery case.
Just as consumers stay up to date with the latest technology, they say they have to as well.
"We have been looking at getting a drone for several years. We've kept watching technology changing and the price come down as the technology went up. It's been a tremendous asset to us," said Jones.
The department also has a night vision camera for the drone.
