Albany State University launched its golf program last year, and for the 2nd straight season they've been crowned SIAC champions.
Tyler Hanson won the individual title shooting a 226 in the three-day tournament at Flat Creek County Club in Peachtree City.
The Albany native was 10-over-par, and finished with an 11-stroke lead over 2nd place. Hanson credits his driving.
"I didn't have to worry about hitting any out of bounds, looking for balls in the woods, and having to punch out to try to scavenge something up for a par," said Hanson.
As a team ASU shot 978 winning by 22 strokes over 2nd place Miles College.
Head Coach Gary Hilton said this is another step in turning the Golden Rams program into a Division II contender on the national level.
"It means that we're just building. We're getting stronger every year. We're getting better recruits coming in. We're just getting deeper and stronger every year. I'm very proud of them," said Hilton as the Golden Rams stopped for gas on the way back to Albany. "We had a lot of ups and downs, its been a long week and when it counted they came through in the clutch."
Next for the Golden Rams is the NCAA Division II Regionals at Rock Barn Golf Club.
That tournament gets underway May 7th out in Conover, North Carolina.
