ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The nursing shortage is still a health problem throughout the country, but Albany Technical College is hoping to fill that void.
The college's nursing program has been ranked third in the state in student qualification testing.
Staff hopes this will attract future students and keep them in Southwest Georgia.
Nursing Program Director Latrona Lanier said she encourages students to follow their passions but has noticed many of them stay local and hope that trend continues.
The college does have partnerships with local hospitals and doctors' offices to help fill nursing jobs here in Southwest Georgia.
"We want to ensure that we take care of Southwest Georgia, this region, first and foremost. We realize there's a shortage across the nation however, the main goal is to reach our community," said Lanier.
Lanier said that although they are excited about this accomplishment, they will keep working until it is the number one program.
