MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) - It's not every day you find a fitness center in a downtown area in Southwest Georgia.
For the city of Moultrie, that has now changed.
The Moultrie YMCA has opened a new location in the downtown square.
It's been several decades since the city had a downtown location and as of April 9, it returned.
Staff worked with the United Way and the city of Moultrie to start the second location. They said this was established to bring growth and more excitement to the square.
"For me, it shows that our YMCA, we want to be for all. That is one thing we've been very conscious about. And so there are some that have said they were not able to get to the other YMCA due to transportation needs. And so for me as the CEO, I'm excited that we're able to serve all," said Moultrie YMCA President and CEO Rich Gallagher.
The downtown YMCA features circuit and cardio equipment, along with a yoga studio and a massage therapy area.
YMCA officials said in six months, they plan to make the YMCA accessible for all by staying open 24 hours.
