MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) - The Spring Fling & Backyard BBQ brings thousands of people to the square in downtown Moultrie each year.
Moultrie's first community festival was started by a local organization. It was named the Festival on the Square.
In 1996 that festival came to an end because of financial reasons.
Three years later, the Spring Fling & Backyard BBQ was born and has grown ever since.
"It's just a welcoming and warm feeling not only for the locals but we welcome all of the people in the surrounding areas as well to come visit and spend the day. We truly want to become a destination for this weekend," said Moultrie Public Relations Director Amy Johnson.
This year, organizers said they expect 7,000 to 8,000 people to attend. They said compared to the past, this festival has grown significantly with not only its attendance but with the vendors as well.
